Customers can earn points in Glow when you enable earning methods and set the number of points each method should award.
Most stores start with a few simple earning methods, then add more advanced rules later when the program is running.
The main ways customers can earn points
Glow's core earning methods are:
Earning method | What it does |
Signup | Gives points when a customer joins your loyalty program. |
Place an Order | Gives points based on how much the customer spends. |
Celebrate a Birthday | Gives points each year on the customer's birthday, if the customer has saved their birthday. |
Have an Anniversary | Gives points each year on the date the customer joined your program. |
Refer Friends | Gives points through your referral program when a referral qualifies. |
You can choose these during the setup wizard.
You can also change them later in Settings > Account Settings > Rewards.
Where to change earning methods
To update your main earning methods:
In Glow, open Settings > Account Settings.
Select the Rewards tab.
Check the earning methods you want to use.
Set the point values for the methods you enabled.
Click Save Settings.
If you want to revisit the full setup flow, click Launch the Wizard from the Account Settings page or the Glow dashboard.
How purchase points work
For Place an Order, set how many points customers should earn for each 1 unit of your Shopify store currency.
For example:
1point per$1means a$50order earns about50points.2points per$1means a$50order earns about100points.0.5points per$1means a$50order earns about25points.
You can choose whether purchase points include or exclude shipping and tax.
Glow rounds purchase points after calculating the order's points.
Ways to refine earning later
After the basics are set up, you can make earning more specific.
Use Order Rules to award, multiply, or exclude points based on order details.
Use Collection Bonuses to give more or fewer points for products in specific Shopify collections.
Use VIP Tiers and multipliers to give loyal customers more points.
Use Referrals to reward customers and friends when referral conditions are met.
Use supported integrations, such as social, review, email, subscription, or developer/API workflows, when those features are set up for your store.
Add or remove points manually from a member profile when you need a one-off adjustment.
Those options are best handled after your core earning setup is clear.
What customers see
Enabled earning methods can appear in the customer-facing loyalty widget so customers know how to earn points.
If you turn off an earning method, customers should not rely on that method to earn points. For example, if birthday points are off, customers will not earn birthday points even if they saved a birthday previously.
Before you launch
Check these items before telling customers about your loyalty program:
Signup has a point value that makes sense for a new customer.
Place an Order uses a rate you are comfortable awarding on real orders.
Shipping & Taxes is set the way you want.
Birthday and Anniversary point values are set only if you plan to offer those moments.
Refer Friends is enabled only if your referral program is configured.
The Glow app and storefront widget are enabled so customers can see and use the program.
Troubleshooting
Customers do not see an earning method in the widget
Check whether that earning method is enabled in Settings > Account Settings > Rewards.
Some earning methods also need more setup. For example, referrals need referral settings, and birthday points require customers to save a birthday.
A customer did not earn points
Start by checking whether the earning method was enabled at the time of the action.
Then check whether the customer or order was excluded from earning points. Some settings, customer tags, order rules, refunds, returns, or program status can affect whether points are awarded.
I only want approved customers to earn points
Use member eligibility controls or a multiplier-based setup carefully. This is a more advanced setup and should be tested before launch, especially if you also award signup points.
