Use the order points setting to decide how many points customers earn for purchases, and use Shipping & Taxes to decide which order amount Glow should use.
Most stores start with a simple rate, such as 1 point for each $1 spent. Then they decide whether customers should earn points on shipping and tax too.
Open the order points settings
In Glow, go to Settings > Account Settings > Rewards.
Under Reward Types, make sure Place an Order is checked.
Then find the purchase-points field under Reward Your Customers.
Set the order earning rate
In the purchase-points field, enter how many points customers should earn for each 1 unit of your Shopify store currency.
For example, if your store currency is USD:
Setting | What it means |
|
|
|
|
| half a point for each |
Glow supports whole numbers and decimals up to four decimal places. The final order points are rounded after Glow calculates them.
Choose the Shipping & Taxes setting
Use Shipping & Taxes to choose the order amount Glow uses before other loyalty rules are applied.
Setting | What Glow uses |
Include Shipping & Tax | The Shopify order total. |
Exclude Shipping & Tax | The Shopify order subtotal. |
For example, if your rate is 1 point per $1:
Order amount | Include Shipping & Tax | Exclude Shipping & Tax |
Shopify subtotal: |
| |
Shopify total: |
|
Use Include Shipping & Tax if you want customers to earn points on the full amount Shopify reports as the order total.
Use Exclude Shipping & Tax if you only want customers to earn points from the Shopify subtotal.
Save your changes
After you update the rate or shipping/tax setting, click Save Settings.
The new setting applies to future order point calculations. It does not automatically recalculate old point activity.
If you changed your earning policy and need to correct a customer's older balance, adjust that customer manually from their member profile.
Why the final points may still differ
The order points setting is the starting point. Other Glow features can still change the final amount.
Check these if the customer earns more or fewer points than expected:
Collection Bonuses can add extra points or override normal product points for specific collections.
Order Rules can set fixed points, multiply points, or exclude matching product-tagged items.
VIP multipliers can increase eligible order points.
Refund and return settings can remove points later.
Award Points for Unpaid Orders can allow eligible unpaid orders to earn before payment is fully captured.
Troubleshooting
Customers are earning too many points
Check whether Shipping & Taxes is set to Include Shipping & Tax. If shipping and tax should not count, change it to Exclude Shipping & Tax and save.
Also review collection bonuses, order rules, and VIP multipliers.
Customers are not earning order points
Check whether Place an Order is checked in Reward Types and whether the order earning rate is greater than 0.
If both are correct, review the missing-order-points troubleshooting article.
Old orders still show the previous calculation
Changing this setting does not rewrite old point activity. Document the date your policy changed, then manually adjust any older customer balances that need correction.
