How do I award different points for specific collections?

Use Collection Bonuses when products in a Shopify collection should earn a different number of points than your normal order earning rate.

Use Collection Bonuses when products in a Shopify collection should earn a different number of points than your normal order earning rate.

This is useful when you want to:

  • Give extra points for a featured, premium, or seasonal collection.

  • Award a flat number of points per item in a collection.

  • Prevent products in a collection from earning purchase points by overriding them to 0.

  • Run a limited-time bonus for a sale, holiday, or product launch.

Before you start

Make sure the Shopify collection already exists and the products you want to target are assigned to it.

You should also know your normal order earning rate. Glow shows that rate at the top of the Collection Bonuses page so you can compare the collection rule against your base points.

Add a collection bonus rule

  1. In Glow, go to Rewards > Collection Bonuses.

  2. In Collection, search for and select the Shopify collection.

  3. In the points field, enter the point value you want the rule to use.

  4. Choose an Award Mode.

  5. Choose whether the rule applies to Items IN this collection or Items NOT in this collection.

  6. Optional: add a Start Date & Time or End Date & Time.

  7. Click Add Collection Bonus.

Choose the right award mode

Bonus adds extra points on top of the normal order points for matching line items.

Example: your normal rate is 1 point per USD. You set a collection rule to Bonus with 2 points. Products in that collection earn 3 points per USD: 1 normal point plus 2 bonus points.

Override replaces the normal per-currency rate with a flat number of points per item.

Example: you set a collection rule to Override with 5 points. Each matching item earns exactly 5 points, regardless of the item price.

To stop products in a collection from earning purchase points, use Override with 0 points and Items IN this collection.

Choose what the rule applies to

Items IN this collection applies the rule only to line items that belong to the selected collection. Other products in the order keep earning points normally.

Items NOT in this collection inverts the rule. The rule applies to line items that are not in the selected collection.

Use Items NOT in this collection carefully. It is helpful for special campaigns, but it can affect more products than expected if the selected collection is narrow.

Schedule a collection bonus

Leave both schedule fields blank if the rule should be active indefinitely.

Use Start Date & Time and End Date & Time when the bonus should run during a specific promotion. Glow shows the timezone used for these fields on the page.

Rules outside their scheduled window stay in your list, but Glow skips them when calculating new order points.

How collection rules are calculated

When an order is placed, Glow checks each non-tip line item against your active collection rules.

Bonus rules stack. If more than one bonus rule matches the same item, Glow adds all matching bonus points on top of the base order points.

Override rules remove the normal order points for the matching item once, then add the flat override amount. If more than one override rule matches the same item, each override adds its flat amount.

Custom order rules run after collection bonus calculations. If you also use order rules, the order rule can still change the final number of points awarded.

Troubleshooting

The collection does not appear in search. Confirm the collection exists in Shopify and search with at least three characters from the collection title.

The bonus is not applying. Confirm the purchased product belongs to the collection, the rule is active, and the order was placed during the scheduled window.

The customer earned zero points for a collection. Check whether the rule is set to Override with 0 points.

The result is higher than expected. Check for multiple matching collection rules. Bonus rules stack, and multiple matching override rules can add multiple flat point amounts.

An order rule changed the final points. Collection bonuses are calculated before custom order rules. Review Rewards > Order Rules if the final order points do not match the collection rule alone.
