The Glow setup wizard helps you configure the first version of your loyalty program. Use it to choose how customers can earn points, name your points, pick widget colors, and set the starting point values for purchases and customer milestones.
You can change these settings later. The goal is to get a simple program ready for testing before customers use it.
Before you start
Before you complete the wizard, decide:
What you want to call your points, such as points, credits, or rewards.
Which actions should earn points at launch.
How many points customers should earn for each amount spent.
Whether to include or exclude shipping and tax when awarding purchase points.
Whether customers should earn points for signup, birthdays, or anniversaries.
You should also have Glow installed and connected to your Shopify store.
Start the wizard
After a new Shopify install, Glow sends you to the welcome screen. Click Let's Go! to begin.
If you are already signed in to Glow, you can open the wizard from:
Step 1: Choose how customers earn points
In Step 1/5, choose the earning methods you want to offer.
The wizard currently includes:
Signup
Place an Order
Celebrate a Birthday
Have an Anniversary
Refer Friends
Click an earning method to turn it on or off. Your selection saves when you click it.
If you are not ready to use every earning method, start with purchases and one simple customer milestone. You can add more earning methods after launch.
Step 2: Name your points and pick colors
In Step 2/5, enter the name customers should see for your points. Common choices include Points, Credits, or Rewards.
Then choose the main and contrast colors for your loyalty experience. Use the preview to make sure the text remains easy to read.
Step 3: Set purchase points
In Step 3/5, set how many points customers earn for each 1 unit of your Shopify store currency spent.
For example, if your store uses USD and you enter 1, customers earn 1 point for each $1 spent.
Use Shipping & Taxes to decide whether Glow should include or exclude shipping and tax when calculating purchase points.
If you do not want customers to earn points for purchases, go back to Step 1/5 and turn off Place an Order.
Step 4: Set signup, birthday, and anniversary points
In Step 4/5, set the point values for the milestone earning methods you enabled in Step 1.
Depending on your Step 1 choices, you may see fields for:
Signup points
Birthday points
Customer anniversary points
These fields use whole numbers. Start with values that match the rewards you plan to offer, then adjust after testing.
Step 5: Finish and choose the next setup task
In Step 5/5, Glow confirms that your loyalty program settings are configured.
From this screen, choose your next setup task:
Enable App & Widget opens the dashboard so you can turn on the main app and widget.
Setup Embedded Content opens the dashboard area for Shopify content blocks.
View Plans opens your subscription options.
After the wizard
Before you launch to customers, finish these checks:
Create at least one reward customers can redeem.
Confirm the main app is enabled.
Confirm the loyalty widget or other storefront surfaces are enabled.
Test earning points with a test customer or order.
Test redeeming a reward.
Common issues
A number field will not save
Use numbers only. Purchase points can use decimals, but signup, birthday, and anniversary point fields need whole numbers.
I do not see a birthday or anniversary field
Go back to Step 1/5 and turn on Celebrate a Birthday or Have an Anniversary. The milestone point fields only appear for the earning methods you enabled.
I finished the wizard but customers cannot see Glow
The wizard configures loyalty settings, but it does not finish every storefront setup task. Use the final wizard buttons or the Glow dashboard to enable the main app, enable the widget app embed, and set up any Shopify blocks you want to use.
