Customers enter their birthday in the Glow loyalty widget on your storefront.

When birthday rewards are enabled, signed-in customers can open the widget, go to How to Earn, and click Save Date next to the birthday earning option.

Shopify does not normally collect a customer's birthday, so Glow needs the customer to save it through the widget before birthday points can be awarded.

Before customers can save a birthday

Check these settings first:

  • Celebrate a Birthday must be enabled in Glow.

  • The customer must be signed in to your store or customer account.

  • The customer must not already have a birthday saved in Glow.

  • The loyalty widget must be visible on the storefront page the customer is using.

Guests may see information about earning birthday points, but the birthday date is saved to a customer record. The customer needs to sign in before Glow can store it.

How customers save their birthday

Customers can save their birthday from the storefront widget:

  1. Open the Glow loyalty widget.

  2. Go to How to Earn.

  3. Find Have a Birthday.

  4. Click Save Date.

  5. Choose a month and day.

  6. Click Save Date.

Some stores also ask for birth year. If Ask for Birth Year is enabled in your widget settings, customers must choose a year before they can save the date. The birth year setting does not change when birthday points are awarded.

What happens after the birthday is saved

After the customer saves a birthday, Glow stores the date on the member profile.

Customers cannot keep changing their birthday from the widget. This helps prevent someone from changing the date repeatedly to earn extra birthday rewards.

In the modern widget, the birthday earning option changes from a Save Date button to a checkmark after the birthday is saved. In the older widget, it shows that the birthday has already been entered.

When birthday points are awarded

Saving a birthday does not automatically award points immediately.

Glow awards birthday points through its scheduled birthday process when the customer is eligible. For birthday points to be awarded, the customer must have a saved birthday, Celebrate a Birthday must be enabled, and the customer must not have already received that birthday award for the current yearly cycle.

Can I change a customer's birthday?

Yes. If a customer entered the wrong date, you can edit it from the member profile in Glow.

Use the format shown in Glow, such as 05-28 for May 28.

Common issues

The customer does not see Save Date

Check whether the customer is signed in and whether Celebrate a Birthday is enabled.

If the customer already has a birthday saved, Glow will show the saved/locked state instead of the Save Date button.

The customer entered the wrong birthday

Open the member profile in Glow and update the birthday manually.

The customer saved a birthday but did not receive points

Saving the date and earning birthday points are separate steps.

Check that Celebrate a Birthday is enabled, the customer is not excluded from the loyalty program, and the customer has not already received the birthday award for the current yearly cycle.

The form asks for birth year

This comes from the Ask for Birth Year widget setting. You can turn that setting on or off in Glow's widget settings.
