Welcome to Glow Loyalty, Rewards & Referrals, this quick start guide is intended to take you through the basics of getting your account set up to create a successful loyalty and rewards program on Shopify. Before we get into how you set-up Glow, here's a bit of why we created glow in the first place.

Why did we build the Glow app?
Glow Loyalty was built to make it easy for Shopify merchants to run a customized loyalty, rewards, and referral program, without breaking the bank. We provide all the tools you need to retain existing customers by rewarding them redeemable points. Glow also helps you attract new customers through referral rewards.

Glow empowers you to create a rewards program and provides all the tools you need to retain and grow your customer base through referrals,  turn one-time purchasers into life-long customers.

With Glow Loyalty, Rewards & Referrals, you can easily do the following:

  • Reward your customers with points for purchases.

  • Setup rewards so customers can redeem their points for discounts, free shipping, products, etc.

  • Incentivize referrals by awarding points to both referrers and referees.

How to award your Shopify customers with points for purchases
We've created a setup wizard that walks businesses through the installation process in five simple steps. For most businesses, the wizard is all you will need to get started and create a simple loyalty program on Shopify.

The wizard allows you to specify how many points customers should earn, per amount spent (using your main currency from Shopify), and also allows you to choose some events (aka moments) customers can earn points for completing.

Step 1 - Select the events/moments you'd like to award points to a customer for completing. For example, you can award points for registration, purchases, birthdays, referrals, and more.

Step 2 - Name your "points" and select the main colors for your loyalty widget.

Step 3 - Define how many points are awarded for purchases (if enabled in the first step of the wizard). For example, you can tell Glow to award 15 points per every $1.00 USD spent through your website or POS system. Note: Glow will use the main currency from your Shopify account.

Step 4 - Define how many points to award for the other events/moments you enabled in the first step of the wizard (i.e., on birthdays, anniversaries, etc.).

Step 5 - Review and launch your widget. We've also created a page where you can check your maths if you'd like to review them.

If you'd like to further refine the way you award points to customers (i.e., for specific products or collections), you can set up "Order Rules" or "Collection Bonuses" in your glow account for more control.

Order Rules
Add special rules to your loyalty program to override the points awarded on a customer's order. You can also use order rules to omit awarding points based on certain conditions like discount code prefixes. Note: If an order matches conditions setup in order rules, the rule will override any existing points that have been awarded for that order.

Collection Bonuses
Add collections in this section to award bonus points (or override the awarded points) when customers purchase items from a specific collection in your store. For example, if you normally award 15 points per USD and the customer buys a product in a collection listed here with 5 bonus points, then they would receive 20 points per USD for the product on the order.

Would you like to import existing members into your loyalty program? We've got you covered.

How to create rewards so customers can redeem their points with Glow
In order for your loyalty members to redeem their points, you'll need to create loyalty rewards so customers can exchange their points for discounts, products, etc. Each customer can earn points over time and then redeem points for rewards you set up in your account.

Here is a list of rewards currently available in glow:

  • Award points for creating an account

  • Award points per amount spent (i.e., 5 points per dollar)

  • Award points on the customer's birthday

  • Award points each year on the customer's account anniversary.

  • Award more or less points for specific collections.

  • Award more or less points for specific products.

  • Award more or less points based on tier level (i.e., bronze, silver, gold)

  • Award a flat number of points based on order criteria

  • Award VIP customers with extra points (i.e., 2x points)

  • Award points only for in-store (Shopify POS) or online transactions only.

  • Award point for custom actions via our API (i.e., mobile app rewards)

  • Award points manually to specific customers only.

How to create rewards so customers can redeem their points
In order for customers to redeem their points, you'll need to set up rewards in your Glow account. Rewards typically come in the form of discount codes that can be applied to future purchases on the Shopify platform. However, points redeemed on Shopify POS do not use discount codes at this time. POS redemptions are calculated automatically and applied directly to the cart in the Shopify POS app.

When setting up rewards, you can specify how many points the customer needs to exchange to receive each discount. Rewards on Glow can be set to give members a specific percentage off their purchase, a fixed amount off, free shipping, or even free products.

From the rewards settings page you can configure:

  • Reward Name - Name of your reward

  • Reward Cost - How many points the customer needs to exchange for the reward.

  • Reward Value - A fixed amount or percentage-based value

  • Discount Applies to - All orders, orders above a specific value, a specific product or products in a specific collection.

  • Discount Code Prefix - You can set a prefix for discount codes generated from this reward to track usage more easily in Shopify.

  • VIP Tiers - If specified, the reward will only be available once members have reached a specific VIP Tier level in your loyalty program.

  • Enable/Disable - Enable or disable the reward to hide or show it to members on your website.

How to reward your customers for referring their friends/family
Glow's referral and affiliate system gives your members the ability to earn points for referring their friends/family by sharing a unique link from their account. Glow enables businesses to reward BOTH, the referrer, and referee to incentivize both parties.

Whenever a referee uses a referral link, you can control how many points both parties receive independently. For example, you can award the existing member 10 points and the new customer 20 points. In addition to the number of points the referrer/referee receives, you can control the following:

Additional Glow features to help customize your Shopify loyalty program.
We've covered the basics of creating a successful loyalty program above; however, there are some more features and configuration options you may want to review before you launch. The features listed below are optional but may help with certain use-cases or customization needs.

VIP Multipliers
If you'd like to award more (or less) points to customers on an ongoing basis, VIP Multipliers can be very useful on Glow.  By default, everyone's VIP Multiplier is set to 1x in the system (you can change this from the advanced settings). This means that each time a customer earns points, their number of points earned will be multiplied by the value of the VIP Multiplier (1x) in their account.

Because the value is 1 by default, the points customers earn will always be equal to the amount defined in your glow settings, so you can typically ignore this setting. However, in some cases, you may want to award specific customers (i.e., wholesalers) with more or fewer points. If so, you can edit each member's VIP multiplier manually from the member details page in your account.

V.I.P. Tiers
V.I.P. Tiers allow you to segment rewards and award more points to customers based on the total number of points they've earned in their lifetime. You can also have the system change a customer's VIP Multiplier automatically using VIP Tiers in Glow.

To set up specific levels or V.I.P. Tiers, visit Rewards > VIP Tiers under the main menu on Glow Loyalty.

For each V.I.P. Tier, you can choose the number of lifetime points required to achieve the tier level for customers, and also the new V.I.P. Multiplier once members have achieved that VIP Tier status.

Email Templates
Glow also offers a number of email notifications built in to help keep your customers informed about your loyalty, rewards, and referrals. You can edit the content of each email template from the settings in your Glow account, and access the underlying HTML on any of our paid plans.

If you're not on a paid plan you can still edit the text in all of the emails from the translation page in your account, but you will not be able to access the template HTML directly or change the related settings unless you upgrade.

Integrations & 3rd Party Apps
Our supported integrations list is growing quickly and allows you to award points for events or actions from 3rd part apps like PayWhirl, MailChimp, and Stripe. For example, you can award points to members for recurring purchases like subscription payments made through PayWhirl (not just the first purchase) or when customers join your email list on MailChimp.
